EPIS Trial: Episiotomy and Perineal Tear Instruction in Self-scar tissue massage
The Goal of our Research:
It is common to have pelvic floor scar tissue after a vaginal delivery from tearing and/or an episiotomy. Episiotomy is a surgical incision to enlarge the vaginal opening during birth. Perineal tears and episiotomy have been linked to increased incidence of urine leakage, fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, and difficult or painful penetrative sex.
Very little research has been done on treatments for postpartum pelvic floor scar tissue and this study is hoping to change that!
Currently we are running a Pilot Study to see if running a full study is feasible, and
we need your help!
Our goal is to determine if scar tissue massage, a treatment involving gentle pulling or
stretching of healed pelvic floor scar tissue, can improve pelvic health outcomes and quality of life.
